Mälardalen University is one of Sweden's largest institutes of higher education. We offer a large number of programmes and courses, which attract 13,000 students from all over the world each year. Our education is characterised by high quality and close contact to research, between students, as well as between students and teachers. We also work strategically and goal-oriented towards being a co-productive university that works closely with the industry and surrounding society. This benefits our students as they often work on projects in collaboration with their future employers. The research at the University puts applicability in focus and is closely connected to the study programs which also benefits our students.

Mälardalen University has centrally located campuses in Eskilstuna and Västerås, in the heart of a rapidly expanding region around Lake Mälaren. The region features beautiful Swedish countryside with lakes, woods, and open fields, but also multinational companies such as ABB, Ericsson, and Volvo.

Our students are attractive on the labour market. Through high-quality education and cooperation with the surrounding community, we prepare our students for work life. Our study programmes are designed in cooperation with employers and are constantly evaluated by them - which helps to match our programmes and courses with the demands of the professional world.

Services that will help your future career

Mälardalen University provides to our students the excellent facility of Idélab. Idélab's work concept is to snatch up, stimulate and pursue ideas from students at Mälardalen University. This can take place under personal management or in collaboration with external companies and organisations. The work of Idélab has resulted in approximately 260 companies.
Career Plaza or Karriärtorget, is a service function for students who want to prepare for their future working life. Through Karriärtorget you can contact our career advisors, find ads for jobs and degree projects, and attend lectures about the labor market. Every semester we invite all international students to a special lecture, in English, about the Swedish labor market.

A Green University

Mälardalen University strives in various ways to contribute to sustainable development and we take social responsibility seriously. Mälardalen University was the first institute of higher education in the world to be environmentally certified in accordance with ISO 14001 since 1999. Since sustainable development is one of our prioritized areas, we have three master programmes in the field of sustainable
development.

Master's programmes

The Mälardalen University offers a wide variety of master programmes. Ten masters are especially suited for international students because they are taught in English. One focus of the university is environmental engineering, hence there are master programmes focused on this issue: Energy Optimization for Buildings and Sustainable Energy Systems. Another field of specialization is software engineering, resulting in a master's programme in Intelligent Embedded Systems and two programmes (60 credits and 120 credits) in Software Engineering. Further study possibilities at the Mälardalen University include Product and Process Development, International Marketing, Financial Engineering and two Health and Care master's programmes.

A great student life!

The two cities of Eskilstuna and Västerås are beautifully situated on both sides of Lake Mälaren, one of Sweden's largest inland lakes. The cities are large enough to provide a wide range of accommodation, cultural activities, shopping, entertainment and sporting facilities, but not so large that students fade into anonymity. As a result of the university's growth, students now make a colorful contribution to the urban scene. Communications to Stockholm are excellent from both cities; it only takes one hour by train to central Stockholm.

There is a real international feel to Mälardalen University. The Student Union arranges plenty of social activities and offers valuable support, especially to our international students. The International Committee, which is a part of the Student Union has a well developed "fadder" activity. This means that you as a new student get support from a student who has already spent some time at the University.

Whatever your interests are the chances are great that you can continue with your hobby while studying at Mälardalen University. In both campus cities there are good opportunities for sport and cultural activities. Västerås Students Sports Association and ELSA: Eskilstuna Just Sporty Enough Academics also arranges training sessions in several kinds of sports. In both Västerås and Eskilstuna there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities both in the summer and in the winter.
