Education for the higher educated

Advanced Diploma in Management Studies

Middlesex University

  • Description
  • Overview

This short course aims to provide suitable learning and development opportunities for students who wish to enhance their existing degree-level knowledge and understanding in a business or management area. The Advanced Diploma is a stand-alone qualification, and therefore it does not transform your existing qualifications, but it will enable you to develop your business knowledge base and strengthen your academic skills in research, critical analysis and written expression in business studies. As such it will be especially suitable for those wishing to subsequently enter a Master's programme in a business subject, for example, on successful completion of this course you will be able to commence the MA International Business Management starting in January or choose from a suite of Business and Management programmes starting in October.

Standard Entry requirements

A UK Honours degree (normally classified 3 or above) or an acceptable equivalent in any subject area.

Exceptionally, applicants without a first degree might be considered based on professional or other qualifications approved for this purpose.

International entry requirements

We accept the equivalent of the above from a recognised overseas university, to find out more about the requirements from your country, see further information under support in your country.

English language requirements

You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all four components) or TOEFL internet based 87 (with at least 21 in listening & writing, 22 in speaking and 23 in reading).

Middlesex also offers an Intensive Academic English course (Pre-Sessional) that ranges from 5-17 weeks, depending on your level of English. Successful completion of this course would meet English language entry requirements. For more information on applying for the pre-sessional please email

For details of other equivalent English language requirements that Middlesex accepts see international entry requirements.

Upon successful completion, students will have more professionalised oral and written communication skills, improved analytical ability to evaluate business and management-related problems/issues and a solid foundational understanding of organisations, people and market processes which will prepare them for future success in pursuit of a Master’s degree at Middlesex University Business School.  Eventually, graduates are envisaged to work toward various managerial leadership roles in a range of commercial and non-commercial institutions.
